Our Practice Philosophy
Our aim is to help you prevent dental disease and maintain good appearance.
Mouth cleanliness and dietary control are the main factors in controlling dental disease. We will teach you how to control any active disease, and this will be coupled with a thorough diagnosis and a planned corrective programme to avoid future disease. We are all individuals and we know that habits of long standing take a long time to change in some people (e.g. smoking). However if we can stimulate your attitude to change, then it is worthwhile.
Your dental health is unique. The rich cannot buy it nor can the poor have it given to them. We must give it to ourselves.
"The mouth in its entirety is an important and even wondrous part of our anatomy, our emotion, our life; it is the site of our very being. When an animal loses its teeth, it cannot survive unless domesticated; its very existence is terminated; it dies. In the human, the mouth is the means of speaking, of expressing love, happiness and joy, anger, ill temper or sorrow. It is the primary sex contact; hence it is of initial import to our regeneration and survival by food and propagation. It deserves the greatest care it can receive at any sacrifice."
F. Harold Wirth, D.D.S.
It is important to look after your new restorations. Try to avoid using abrasive toothpaste that may damage your teeth and restorations and increase sensitivity. It is advisable to use a mouthwash first to loosen plaque etc. and clean with fluoride toothpaste to finish. It is also advisable not to rinse out the toothpaste but just to expectorate.
